Holiday Traditions

Tonight we are doing one of the many traditions we have developed over the years of celebrating Christmas together.
This is our 7th Christmas together and our 3rd Christmas living on our own.
The last two Christmases Josh has been in the hospital up until the last possible day before being released. So this year is completely different for us.

Tonight we are watching one of our all time favorite Christmas movies ...

$3.00 DIY Holiday Wreath

I have been looking for the past couple of weeks for the supplies I wanted to make a fun holiday wreath to hang on our door. It was easy to find the ribbons and ornaments I wanted to use, but finding the wreath itself was more of a challenge. I finally found something that I could make work for my vision in the project.

Things I Used:
 -Wreath from Dollarama $2.00
- Red Ornaments fron Dollar Tree $0.42 (was a package of 7 for $1.00 but I only used 3)
- Ribbons $0.50 (didn't use a whole roll at all so I guessed on the approximate price)
- Scissors
- Glue Gun

The first thing I did was cut the large bow off of the top of the wreath because I personally did not like it. I left the bells hanging in the middle because they were super cute.

Next I measured how much ribbon I needed to hang in on my door and i hot glued the loop end near the wreath to hold the ribbon together. I then cut some on the thick ribbon in about 3 inch long strip. I then folded it in half and looped it around the wreath and hot glued it shut. I did this in four different places. I folded the ribbon in half because it is a thin wreath and the thickness of the ribbon was too much for the wreath. Next I took my three ornaments and poped off the plastic ends. I applied a generous amount of hot glue and pressed them onto the wreath in the spots I wanted them in. If you are finding that the ornaments are a little loose, add more hot glue to the underneath portion and press down for a about a minute until the glue is completely dry. Make sure all hot glue is dry before hanging your wreath.

DIY Festive Vase

On The Fifth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Five Golden Rings!

I was feeling like my dining room table was lacking something festive this holiday season. So I decided to jazz it up! All with items found at the dollar store. Easy. Cheap. Adorable.

I used a vase from Dollarama that looked like a miniature hurricane vase. It cost $2.00 and will be great for future projects after the holidays. I also picked up some plastic ornaments and festive holiday ribbon. I purchased the ribbon with the wire in the edges.

The first thing I did was curl the ribbon around the vase. Make sure to leave space between the ribbon so you can see inside the vase. I used scotch tape to secure the bottom and the top of the ribbon so it didn't move.

Next, I filled the vase with our red ornaments and voila. Done. This projects was easy, fast, and cheap! My favorite kind. Here is the final product:

Holiday Love!

Saying Thank-You This Holiday Season

As some of you may know, my hubby suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Due to this he has home health care year round, unless he is in the hospital. Every week a nurse comes to change the dressing on his arm and check his overall health. There are two main nurses that come to our home, and this holiday season I wanted to find a way to say thank you to them.

I decided that I wanted to make their gifts. I don't know what it is about homemade gifts, but to me they say that the person took the extra time to make their gift that much more special. Don't think that by me saying that that I don't think store bought gifts aren't fantastic, but in this situation I really wanted the nurses to know that these gifts were truly from the heart. These ladies are amazing just for putting up with Josh's craziness all together and they deserve to be recognized for what they do.

I searched high and low for something to hold the goodies I was going to prepare for them. Walmart, dollar stores, other discount stores. And nothing. I couldn't find anything that really stood out to me. I was close to buying the traditional cookie tins at the dollar store but they only had really large ones and really small ones. I didn't want to limit myself with the small ones, and the large ones were far too big and far over budget for my liking. Finally, I found exactly what I was looking for. I was at my local grocery store and they had these plastic holiday cookie jars with screw on lids that I knew would be perfect. And to top it off they were only $1.50 each!

I began to plan what I was going to put into these containers and after a lot of deliberation I decided on the following holiday goodies:
These treats were chosen because both the pretzels and the hot chocolate spoons will be great used in the hot chocolate!

All of these treats were simple and affordable to make.

Easy DIY Holiday Card Ideas

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree !

So, I already have all of my regular Christmas card address and ready to be mailed out in the beginning of December. But, there are a few handmade gifts that I give to various people every year that warrant a pretty awesome hand made card.
These are just some of the layouts I did.
There are thousands of things you could do, and I urge you to use every ounce of creativity you have!
I know that personally I  {L O V E } receiving hand made gifts and cards.
It really shows the person how much you truly appreciate them.

What I Used:
  • 2 of the latest issues of Chatelaine
  • Scraps of Wrapping Paper
  • Ribbons
  • Large Circle Punch
  • Scrapbook Mounting Squares
  • Fancy Pen
  • Scissors (Not Pictured)
  • Card stock (Not Pictured)

The first one I made (pictured on the left), was very simple to make.
I used the large circle punch to punch a bunch of circles out of a page in the magazine
that was very festive and sparkly.
I used the scrapbooking mounting squares to stick the circles randomly
onto the white card stock.
I wrote a simple 'Happy Holidays & Happy New Year' on the back.
Simple. Cute. Festive.

For the second one (pictured on the right), I used the circle punch again and punch a purple
page out of the magazine cover. I made a border on the left side of the
card stock and used the scrapbooking mounting squares to secure them to the paper.
I then used a single hole punch and punched two holes at the top
of the paper about an inch apart. I then laced ribbon
through the holes and tied them together. I did this twice.
I then curled the ribbon using the scissors.
I again wrote on it with a simple message.
It looks lovely.

This is the third card I made.
On the front I took some wrapping paper scraps and I stuck them to the card stock with the mounting
squares. I made them all at different angles so it looked more abstract.
I added a piece of paper to the corner so I would have a place to write
the to and from part of the card.
On the reverse, I cut 13 circles with the punch out of white paper. I
hand wrote the letters for 'Happy Holidays'. I tried to
make all the letters in different writings and different sizes
so it went along with the abstract of the front
of the card.
I think this one is my favorite so far.
:)
